DHARA SUVARNAKAR

I have loved the art of henna ever since I was a little girl. I taught myself and initally practiced with paper and pencil by tracing my hands and filling in with designs. Eventually, I learned to use a henna cone and practiced on my own hands, as well as on hands of family members. In December 2011, I took a 4-day henna course with the world renown henna artist, Mr. Ash Kumar, and became fully certified.

Since then, I have been to several Mehndi Ceremonies, an important component of any South Asian wedding. Each of my designs, whether it be on hands or feet, is unique and specific to each client. Some prefer traditional, detailed henna; some like large arabic style elements, and there are others who prefer a fusion of both the styles. Whichever style it be, the henna paste that I prepare at home is 100% organic and guarantees a naturally dark maroon color.

Clients have asked me how I can come up with a cohesive design, without any prior planning; all I can say is that I let the design speak for itself.
